What Democrats Don’t Care About, But Should

As a less-than-casual observer of politics in America, I find it fascinating the things politicians don’t do.

What people don’t do is often a better indicator of their motives and objectives than looking at what they do.

Electoral College

The electoral college issue is particularly intriguing. The Republican party has won the popular vote for president once since 1988. That one win was in 2004, obviously predicated on the shenanigans from 2000 with the Supreme Court.

That the electoral college is clearly not to the advantage of Democrats, doesn’t seem to bother party leadership. That the GOP has certainly figured out how to game the electoral college system with targeted misinformation and manipulation (e.g. see 2016 and current 2020 tactics), the electoral college is not an issue Democratic leaders think is worth mentioning.

Donald Trump

It’s August, more than 160,000 people have died from covid-19. By the time Joe Biden is inaugurated in January, at least another 160,000 Americans who woke up this morning will be dead from covid-19.

Trump was impeached by the House for pressuring an ally to dig up dirt, or pretend to have dirt on Joe Biden. Trump is still pushing misinformation about Joe Biden with help from Russia.

Trump does not care that Russia is paying to have US soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

Trump is unfit to be commander in chief. Democratic leaders know that. We all know that. Yet when has Pelosi called for Trump to resign? Or Hoyer? Or Schumer? Or Nadler? Or even AOC? No Democrats are passionately and consistently making the case that Trump should resign immediately.

I find that bizarre.

The only course of action is voting, they tell us daily.

That’s it.

We’re putting everything in voting, and if it doesn’t work – it didn’t in 2016 – we’re legit screwed. It won’t matter what Pelosi says after Trump is inaugurated in 2021. It won’t matter what anyone says. Trump is going to steamroll everyone and anything that gets in his way.

But the sad and cynical part of the Democratic leadership plan to simply vote is that 160,000 people will die while they implement that plan. I sure hope it works out, because for the last four years, nothing has worked out.

State of the Union: Trump Era Tipping Point

Donald Trump
Donald Trump

It was a threat. Donald Trump threatened House Democrats on Monday in his State of the Union speech. In a nutshell, Trump said that there will be no legislation or peace while there are investigations of his administration.

“If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation,” Trump told a joint session of Congress on Monday evening.

I’m loathe to make predictions, but this feels like a Trump era turning point. What he’s saying is, “That’s a nice country you’ve got there, it would be a shame if something were to happen to it.”

Trump is specifically, publicly and adamantly threatening House Democrats to either back off or he’s going to punish the entire nation.

Richard Nixon did something similar in his State of the Union speech in January 1974. Nixon didn’t threaten anyone, but he called for the Watergate investigation to be ended. Nixon resigned in August that same year.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will handle Trump’s threat with skill and class.

I don’t understand people, particularly white people. NOW that Donald Trump has reportedly referred to countries like Haiti and El Salvador as “shit holes” – now he’s a racist.

FFS, Trump has been a racist his entire life. Of course, this is just one more example of it, but come on people. Pick up the pace in calling out obvious shit, FFS.

In 1989, Trump took out this full page ad in the New York Daily News.

Trump Racist Ad Bring back the death penalty. bring back our police!

The ad was about five brown kids who were arrested and convicted of brutally raping a white woman in Central Park. They were kids, Yusef Salaam and Antron McCray were 15. Raymond Santana and Kevin Richardson were 14. Korey Wise was 16 years old.

Trump ran this ad before the trial even began. It cost him $85,000.

After serving from between seven and 13 years, DNA exonerated these innocent men.

Trump still thinks they should be executed. He told CNN, “They admitted they were guilty. The police doing the original investigation say they were guilty. The fact that that case was settled with so much evidence against them is outrageous. And the woman, so badly injured, will never be the same.”

The case wasn’t “settled” like some sort of civil case. This was a criminal rape case. There was no settling jack shit. The DNA proves these men didn’t do the crime. It proves that the police beat confessions out of these teenagers without lawyers present. They violated their fundamental rights. All of those cops should be in prison.

But not for Trump, oh no, he was right all along. Even though the actual perpetrator was never brought to justice and innocent lives ruined, Trump stands by his belief that they did it and he was right.

FFS, the GOP chose him to be president of the United States of America. This travesty can not go unpunished. We must destroy the Republican Party for this outrageous abomination that they have inflicted on us.

Trump Found Someone in the Media Who Doesn’t Think He’s A Dumbass

I’ll be honest, I don’t know who Michael Goodwin is. He writes a column for the New York Post and is a Fox News contributor. His latest column has made Donald Trump very happy.

A quick Google search shows that Goodwin is a typical rightwing hack who says stupid shit on Fox News and makes a living doing that, or something like that. I really never understood that there could be a marketplace for people like this to opine. In a November 2015 column, Goodwin said that President Obama didn’t want to fight ISIS and he should resign.

That’s the context to place Goodwin’s latest column, in which he writes that despite Trump’s “missteps, there has never been a day when I wished Hillary Clinton were president. Not one.”

Goodwin spent the first three paragraphs bitching about Steve Bannon. Then Goodwin fires a few spitballs at Michael Wolff’s book “Fire and Fury,” which has Trump clearly livid.

Around the tenth paragraph in Goodwin gets to his point. These are the parts that has gotten Trump so excited this evening.

Indeed, as Trump’s accomplishments accumulate, the mere thought of Clinton in the White House, doubling down on Barack Obama’s failed policies, washes away any doubts that America made the right choice.

So excited Trump just hurled out a couple of tweets that didn’t really match up with Goodwin’s column.

The word “consensual” doesn’t exist in Goodwin’s current column, perhaps Trump got confused, or Goodwin changed his column. Those tweets were deleted and Trump tweeted this.

Trump is happy. He found someone to say nice things about him in the newspaper, even if it is the New York Post.

Donald Trump Under Indictment

Late Saturday night, Claude Tayler and Louise Mensch have dropped a bombshell story that Donald Trump is under indictment.

Taylor, a longtime political operator, and Mensch, a former British conservative member of parliament and now investigative journalist, teamed up to write what can only be described as a shocker.

The story is only two paragraphs and it’s not publicly sourced, but if accurate, could provide the basis for impeachment.

According to Taylor, he and Mensch have separate sources, both corroborating the same information. Taylor tweeted that a grand jury operating under the FISA court has issued the sealed indictment.

Because of the special constitutional powers of the presidency, Trump can’t yet be prosecuted with this indictment, but Mensch and Taylor report that the sealed indictment can be used as a basis to impeach him.

Must See Dutch Documentary Outlining Trump’s Ties to Russian Mafia

A Dutch TV show called Zembla has just published a scathing documentary outlining the many connections between Donald Trump and his numerous connections to Russian mafia.

While the documentary at times poses more questions than it answers, it’s a fascinating look at the shadowy Trump business deals. Back in the 1990s, Trump filed for bankruptcy several times and American banks wouldn’t loan him money. So, as the story goes, Trump turned to Russian oligarchs to fund his real estate deals. The connections between he and these Russian criminals isn’t two or three steps removed, they worked directly with Trump himself.

One of those mobsters is Felix Sater worked directly with Trump. Here’s a copy of his business card.

According to a lawyer in the documentary, it would not be difficult to prove Trump knew who he was dealing with and would therefore himself be convicted of racketeering and money laundering.

Watch the documentary and judge for yourself.

Trump, Azerbaijan and Prison for Violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977

It’s nearly impossible to stay focused on any one Donald Trump story for more than a few hours, a new one drops every 6 hours. But this one about the hotel in Azerbaijan is important – it shouldn’t be forgotten too quickly.

If it’s accurate, The New Yorker’s Adam Davidson has uncovered a silver bullet that doesn’t just take down Donald Trump with impeachment – if convicted, Trump could go to federal prison with his daughter Ivanka.

As the story goes, the Trump organization working with the most corrupt government official in one of the most corrupt countries in the world would undoubtedly violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977.

Azerbaijan Transportation Minister Ziya Mammadov is widely known for his close relationship with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and for being extremely corrupt. Mammadov’s salary is less than $15,000 a year, yet he’s a billionaire. Iran’s ideologically driven military force, is locked down by sanctions and can not legally do business with Americans or American companies. Via construction contracts, Mammadov can essentially launder Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps money. Building Trump International Hotel & Tower Baku is apparently one such construction project.

While lots of companies can get off with paying fines for violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, some of the fines are in the hundreds of millions dollars, and sometimes people go to federal prison.

Just look at Frederick Bourke. He spent nearly a year in federal prison for violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He ran a handbag company.

Republican Party Compares Trump to Jesus and Calls Him King

Maybe I’m dumb, but this statement by the Republican party on Christmas Day is odd. Right?

He’s the sentence that jumped out at me.

“Just as the three wise men did on that night, this Christmas heralds a time to celebrate the good news of a new King.”

It sounds to me like RNC Chairman and President Elect Donald Trump Chief of Staff Reince Priebus is saying that Trump is the new King with a capital “k” Jesus Christ.

I’m not Christian, so I’m not sure, but it seems like that would be at least frowned upon by the religon, if not an outright sin to say such things about the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior of Nasareth.

This is not normal.

Here’s the statement in its entirety.

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chair Sharon Day released the following statement celebrating Christmas:

“Merry Christmas to all! Over two millennia ago, a new hope was born into the world, a Savior who would offer the promise of salvation to all mankind. Just as the three wise men did on that night, this Christmas heralds a time to celebrate the good news of a new King. We hope Americans celebrating Christmas today will enjoy a day of festivities and a renewed closeness with family and friends.

“Even as we celebrate, we must also remember those among us who are less fortunate. Many on this day are without hope, and need the kindness and compassion of those around them. It is our prayer we will rise to meet the material, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals all around us, and what better day is there to love our fellow man than today?

“As we open presents, enjoy Christmas dinner, and celebrate our own family traditions, we are mindful of our men and women in uniform. Many are stationed around the world today protecting our freedoms, and cannot be with their own spouses, children, parents, and siblings. We express the deepest gratitude for service that takes them away from celebrating with loved ones, and we ought to remember them in our thoughts and prayers not just on Christmas Day, but the whole year round.”

List of Democrats Working with Trump

With Donald Trump sitting in the Oval, it’s important to note which Democrats are actively working with and supporting this person who is a racist, bigot, misogynist and all around disgusting human being.

Carson for HUD Secretary

In a shocking move, it appears that two of the most vocal progressives in the Senate will vote to confirm Ben Carson to be the next Housing and Urban Development secretary. Carson has zero experience working with housing or anything related to the agency’s mandate. He has said about himself that he is unqualified to run a government agency. And yet, here is Sherrod Brown of Ohio and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, two supposed liberals in the Senate, casting votes in support of Trump’s unqualified candidate to lead this important agency.

Pompeo Vote

Trump nominated Tea Party House Representative Michael Pompeo (R-KS) to be his CIA director. On January 23, the following 14 Democratic Senators felt it was important to support Trump’s choice to lead the CIA.

Joe Donnelly of Indiana voted for Pompeo. Donnelly also voted for General James Mattis and General John Kelly to be Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. The Mattis and Kelly nominees are interesting in that we have had a tradition that our military is civilian controlled. That’s now no longer the case.

California Senator Dianne Feinstein is retiring and wanted to demonstrate her support of the Trump administration by voting for Pompeo.

Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire is new to the US Senate. Hassan voted for Pompeo. Hassan was joined by her granite state counterpart Jeanne Shaheen, as well as Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Jack Reed of Rhode Island, Brian Schatz of Hawaii, and Mark Warner of Virginia.

Trump also received the support of Senator Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and senator and former vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine of Virginia.

Met with Trump as President-elect

He’s no longer an elected politician, but still, former Vice President Al Gore met with Trump and Trump’s daughter Ivanka on December 5. Apparently while running her father’s business, she’s also going to focusing on climate change.

The day after the election, Gore wrote, “I wish him well in these efforts and intend to do everything I can to work with him and his administration to ensure that our nation remains a leader in the global effort to meet this challenge.”

Gore is crazy if he anything good will come from normalizing the Trump administration.

I just came across this on December 5, but on November 21, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) met with Trump to discuss Syria.

Gabbard seems to realize that meeting with Trump is a problem. She said, “While the rules of political expediency would say I should have refused to meet with President-elect Trump, I never have and never will play politics with American and Syrian lives.”

Regardless of the reason, normalizing Trump is not going to help anyone but Trump.

On December 2, Democrat Heidi Heitkamp, Senator of North Dakota, met with Trump at Trump Tower in New York.

The big joke was that Heitkamp got on the elevator with the “naked cowboy” who hangs out in the lobby. But the real story is that she’s meeting with a racist and a bigot. Whether this means she’s going to be working with Trump is not knowable, but she’s meeting with him, so she’s tentatively on the list.

If you know of any more Democrats prostrating themselves before Trump, let me know in the comment section and provide some sort of verifiable evidence.

President-elect Trump Is Still Bitching

Early this morning, President-elect Donald Trump was bitching on Twitter about the New York Times.

Apparently, Trump and folks from the New York Times were supposed to meet but Trump canceled the meeting.

The New York Times responded that the president elect is full horse poop.

And in his usual whiny tone, Trump sniffled.

The New York Times did the right thing, there’s no reason for one of the most read newspapers in the world to bow before Trump. He wants to control news organizations, that can’t happen. News organizations everywhere need to be resolute in their desire aggressively cover Trump – even if Chuck Todd insists on being bad at his job.

We’re now in the 2000 when George W. Bush was president. The press was weak and when 9/11 happened they buckled and the result was a war that left tens of thousands of people dead and destabilized the entire Middle East and northern Africa.

Let’s not do that again.
